The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito September 23 to September 25, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
September 23rd

Possession of Controlled Substance and Drug Paraphernalia – 1200 block of Richmond St.
At approximately 6:39am officers responded to a suspicious parked vehicle, with a male passed out behind the wheel.  A 32 year old male from El Sobrante was contacted in the driver seat.  During a search of the subject, officer located approximately 5.2 grams of suspected methamphetamines and a meth pipe on his person.  A reciprocating saw and a floor jack were in the vehicle; but no catalytic converters.  The vehicle was towed for having expired registration.  The male was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.

Trespassing and False Identification – Sola Salon 460 El Cerrito Plaza
At approximately 7:24am, officers were dispatched to the salon when an employee found an unknown male sleeping inside the lobby.  It is unclear how the male got inside, since there were no signs of forced entry.  Officers detained a 39-year-old transient male from Santa Rosa.  The male provided several false names to officers, but none matched in the systems. The male was arrested, booked at El Cerrito Police Department, where his true identity was revealed and released on a citation.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Battery – 500 block of Oak St.
At approximately 3:31pm, officers responded to a physical fight between three friends, regarding money.  A 47-year-old female from Oakland gave her two friends, a 33 year old female from Oakland and a 43 year old male from Richmond, a ride from Oakland to a residence on Oak St.   When the female asked for gas money owed to her, the other female and male began to assault her.  The female defended herself with a small wooden stick.  The other two party’s claimed the female came to the apartment and began fighting with them, so they defended themselves.  All involved subjects suffered minor injuries, refused medical attention and requested prosecution against the other.  All subjects were identified and released from the scene.  The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office. 
 
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 11939 San Pablo Avenue (Home Depot);
At 9:20 pm an officer located an unoccupied stolen vehicle parked in the Home Depot parking lot.  The vehicle was recovered and impounded. 

September 24th
Grand Theft – the 000 block of San Carlos Avenue;
At 4:00 am, an officer was sent to the report that a neighbor had just witnessed someone steal the catalytic converter from the neighbor’s car. 

Grand Theft – 6400 block of Conlon Ave.
An unknown suspect stole the victim’s catalytic converter.  The suspect bypassed the aftermarket metal security plate covering the catalytic converter.  The theft occurred from September 23rd at 2pm to September 24th at 9am.

Vehicle Tampering – 10900 block of San Pablo Ave.
An unknown suspect shattered the rear passenger side window to the victim’s vehicle and tampered with the ignition. No property was taken from inside the vehicle. The incident occurred this morning from 6am to 6:30am. 

664/488 PC – 2200 block of Key Blvd;
At 6:19 pm an officer was sent for the report that a suspect had attempted to siphon gas out of their vehicle’s gas tank with a hose but was scared off before they could steal any gas. 

Robbery – 11450 San Pablo Avenue (Safeway);
At 9:47 pm an officer was sent to the report that when a Security Guard confronted someone who was leaving the store with merchandise they had not paid for the suspect punched the guard in the face twice.  The guard sprayed the suspect with pepper spray and the suspect ran away with the merchandise. 
 
September 25th

Attempted Catalytic Converter Theft – 2300 block of Mira Vista Dr.
At approximately 11:54am witnesses saw an unknown suspect underneath a neighbors Toyota Prius, attempting to steal the catalytic converter.  The suspect realized he was being watched and got into a green Honda CRV that was parked in the middle of the street.  There was a second suspect in the driver seat of that vehicle.  Officers later learned that the Honda CRV was a reported stolen vehicle from the Richmond Police Department.  A witness followed the Honda into East Richmond Heights where they lost sight of it.

The first suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult, 30-40 years old, 5’7”, with a medium build.  The driver was described as a Hispanic male adult, 30-40 years old.

Brandishing a Weapon – 700 block of Albemarle St.
At approximately 5:19pm, officers responded to a report of a subject with a gun.  The suspect, a 50 year old female from El Cerrito, pointed a black handgun at her housemate and said, “I’m gonna kill you!”  The victim feared for his life and called 911.  Officers arrived, located the female outside the residence and detained her without incident. Officers located a black colored lighter that was shaped like a gun, in her bedroom.  The victim signed a Citizen’s Arrest form and the female was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

DUI – 5900 block of Avila Street;
At 3:43 am officers were sent for the report of an argument in a vehicle in the middle of the street.  When officers arrived they found a vehicle parked in the middle of the street and found the driver to be heavily intoxicated.  She was arrested and booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Avenue at Macdonald Avenue;
At 6:56 pm an officer saw a subject driving in the area who they knew had a warrant for their arrest.  A traffic stop was conducted and the subject was placed under arrest for the warrant.  They were booked at ECPD and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Brandishing – 3400 block of Yosemite Avenue;
At 7:41 pm an officer reported that two neighbors got into an argument and one of them armed themselves with a hammer and the other armed himself with a baseball bat.
