The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito September 26th to September 29th, 2022.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
September 26th
Domestic battery, Robbery – Starbucks, 11861 San Pablo Ave.
At 8:05 am, the female victim was seated in her vehicle when her ex-boyfriend approached on foot. The suspect forced his way into the victim’s vehicle, held the victim down, and stole the victim’s cell phone.
License plate theft – 2500 block of Nason Ave.
On 9/24/22 at 8 am, an unknown suspect stole the license plate from the victim’s vehicle.
Shoplift – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 8:50 PM, an unidentified suspect who frequently shoplifts from Ross stole men’s shoes, which Ross employees claimed to be worth $700, and fled toward BART. The suspect was described as a mixed race black / Hispanic male, 30’s, wearing all black clothing and black shorts, carrying a white trash bag.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Burglary / Spousal Battery – 1000 block of Havens Pl:
At 11:40 PM, officers responded to a report that the father of the victim’s child, a 28 year old San Leandro man, broke in to the victim’s house and was inside breaking things. The suspect shattered the rear slider and another window with a dumbbell, then entered the house and began arguing with the victim. The suspect pushed the victim then picked up a lamp and swung it at her, but missed. The victim fled the house with the baby and waited up the street for police. The suspect fled prior to police arrival. Several calls to the suspect went unanswered, and he did not reply to voice mail messages. An Emergency Protective Order was obtained.
September 27th
Skimming device – Bank of America, 10422 San Pablo Ave.
An ATM technician discovered a skimming device that had been inserted into one of the ATM’s.
Hit and Run – Elm St / Gladys Ave:
At 10:31 PM, a 37 year old El Cerrito woman collided with a parked vehicle in the 1300 block of Elm Street then fled without stopping to exchange info. The collision flattened the right front tire of the suspect vehicle so she only made it to the 1200 block of Richmond Street, leaving a trail of gouges and rubber transfer in her wake, before the tire departed the vehicle and she could continue no farther. The woman claimed she heard the tire pop but had no idea she had collided with the vehicle, which she had in fact hit hard enough to push it up on to the curb.
September 28th
Vehicle theft – 7700 block of Eureka Ave.
At 6:30 am, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s E-150 van.
Vehicle theft – 1800 block of Key Blvd.
Sometime between 9/23 and today, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2011 Chevy Cruze.
Vehicle theft, Possession of a stolen vehicle, Providing false information to police, Warrant arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Bayview Ave.
Officers were dispatched to the area for a stolen Tesla that was being tracked by the victim. An officer located the vehicle and conducted a high-risk stop. The driver, a 27-year-old Oakland woman was arrested. The woman provided a false name to officers. When her true identity was discovered, she was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant for residential burglary. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Disturbing the peace, Trespassing – 3400 block of Yosemite Ave.
At 9:50 am, the victim’s neighbor confronted the victim at his front door, began banging on the door, and yelled obscenities at the victim.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 6400 block of Conlon Ave:
At 10:45 PM, an officer reports the suspect, an 18 year old El Cerrito woman, hit her 20 year old sister in the back of the head with a meat tenderizer hammer after an argument, causing swelling, a laceration and bleeding. The sister was transported to the hospital by AMR. The suspect was transported to the county jail in Martinez.
