Narrative:
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, through the Ojai Police Department, will team with the Ojai Unified School District to conduct campus safety exercises including active shooter training for deputy sheriffs and staff with the Ojai Unified School District at Matilija Middle School on October 10, 2022, at 8:15 AM.
The morning session of training provided to Ojai Unified School District staff will be conducted by the Sheriff’s Office and will educate staff members on what they can expect during active shooter situations and will provide them with training on how to keep school children and themselves safe.
Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office will undergo classroom training in the morning and scenario-based training in the afternoon at Nordhoff High School.  The scenario-based training will involve actors with weapons capable of firing blank ammunition.  Ojai Unified School District leaders will be invited to observe the scenario-based training in order to understand how Sheriff’s deputies will respond in a critical incident of this type.  This refresher training will continue to prepare our deputy sheriffs and school staff to respond to and resolve critical incidents quickly and safely.
The training will take place within a designated area of the fenced grounds of Nordhoff High School.  Law enforcement personnel from the Ojai Police Department will visit the neighborhoods surrounding the school prior to inform residents on what they can expect during the training session.  The training is not open to the public.
