Third quarter Water bills are in the mail.
THIRD QUARTER WATER BILLS ARE IN THE MAIL – Overall, above average usage was measured during this quarter. The town pumped over 36% more water than the same period last year. Due to the dry summer, water usage dramatically increased mainly due to excessive use of water sprinklers. It is the property owner’s responsibility to monitor and maintain their sprinkler system. There have been issues where sprinklers are left on for hours at a time and for multiple consecutive days which can lead to a very high water bill. It appears in many cases that watering restrictions for the summer months have not been observed.
Other possible sources of a high water bill could be from a running toilet, a water softener or home humidifier. To assist with diagnosing the issue, a data log can be performed for a fee of $25.00 that reports hourly usage for the past 90 days from the day the data log is taken. If it is determined that watering rules were not observed, a penalty can be imposed. To place an order for a data log, you can email the Water Department at [email protected]
