On October 6, 2022, at about 11:00 am Simi Valley Police Officers responded to Rancho Santa Susanna Park (5005 Los Angeles Avenue), to investigate an assault in progress. When the officers arrived, they met with a 65-year-old Simi Valley resident, who informed them that another man had battered him. He added that the battery happened after a verbal dispute. During the crime, the suspect, who was identified as 34-year-old, Simi Valley resident, Rashad Gawad, broke a walking cane and eyeglasses belonging to the victim. Officers located Gawad near the park and arrested him for misdemeanor battery and felony vandalism. The victim received minor injuries.
