Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé reports the arrest of Khalif Cousar, 18, of Newark, who was being sought for a shooting that occurred on Monday, September 26, 2022.
 
At approximately 3 p.m., police responded to the 400 block of Ferry Street on a call of a shooting. A male suspect shot a firearm at another male walking on Ferry Street. The suspect grazed an innocent bystander who was transported to University Hospital for treatment and released.
 
Detectives investigating this incident identified Cousar as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Members of the Newark Police Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested Cousar without incident on October 5, 2022. He faces charges of multiple counts of aggravated assault, criminal mischief, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
