Police-Community Interaction Survey to be Conducted for the Green Bay Police Department

The Green Bay Police Department would like to make citizens aware that in the coming weeks, those who have requested police services may be contacted and asked to participate in a Police-Community Interaction Survey (PCIS) regarding their interaction with our police officers.

The survey, which has been developed by the University of Illinois, Chicago has been used in at least 58 different cities in the United States and is supported by the National Police Research Platform as well as the National Institute of Justice. Citizen input will help the Green Bay Police Department assess the quality of police-public contact.

“It’s important for us to understand how community members feel about the services we provide. This survey should give us some data to work with to understand how we’re doing,” said Chief Chris Davis, Green Bay Police Department.

Sample PCIS Questions and Answers:

  • Q: How well are the police doing, fighting crime?
    • A: (Very Poor Job, Poor Job, Good Job, Very Good Job)
  • Q: How safe do you feel, or would you feel, being alone outside in your neighborhood at night?
    • A: (Very Unsafe, Somewhat Unsafe, Somewhat Safe, Very Safe)
  • Q: How well are the police doing, being available when you need them?
    • A: (Very Poor Job, Poor Job, Good Job, Very Good Job)
  • Q: During the encounter, the officer seemed trustworthy.
    • A: (Yes/No)
  • Q: Taking the whole experience into account, how satisfied are you with the way the officer treated you in this case?
    • A: (Very Unsatisfied, Unsatisfied, Satisfied, Very Satisfied)
The survey will be conducted by a graduate student in Boise, Idaho and done over the phone. Those contacted, and who have caller ID can expect the incoming call to come from a (208) area code.

The survey taker may confirm information such as name, address along with the date and time of call to Green Bay Police, but they will not ask for anything of financial nature or social security numbers.

We would like to thank our citizens ahead of time for their participation with the Police-Community Interaction Survey to help shape improvements of the Green Bay Police Department.
