Sheriff's Marine Enforcement Unit takes Top Agency Award for Operation Dry Water

DATE/TIME: July 2 - July 4, 2022

INCIDENT: Operation Dry Water

LOCATION: Colorado River and Lake Havasu

SUMMARY:  The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Marine Enforcement Unit recently attended the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators award ceremony, for their efforts during year 2022 Operation Dry Water Campaign. Operation Dry Water (ODW) is a year-round boating under the influence awareness and enforcement campaign. The mission of ODW is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug-related accidents and fatalities, through increased recreational boater awareness and by fostering a stronger and more visible deterrent to alcohol use on the water. Operation Dry Water's three-day heightened awareness and enforcement weekend takes place annually around the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The 2022 Small Category Top Agency was awarded to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Over the course of the three-day heightened enforcement weekend, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deployed three officers who made 15 boating under the influence arrests during the operation.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Marine Enforcement Unit would like to thank the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators for allowing them to be part of Operation Dry Water. The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department is committed to providing a safe boating atmosphere for the public and urges everyone to boat sober and wear their life jackets. For More Information regarding safe boat practices, visit the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways website at www.dbw.ca.gov.
