Notification: MVPD Training Exercise at Mill Valley Middle School

On Saturday, October 15th, from 8 am to 5 pm, the Mill Valley Police Department (MVPD), along with other local law enforcement and fire agencies, will conduct a Violent Encounter Response Training at the Mill Valley Middle School. No students will be present.

We understand that a training event like this may evoke many emotions. In light of recent events throughout our nation, we wanted to allow the MVPD the opportunity to conduct this training on our campus to better familiarize MVPD and allied agencies with the campus lay-out and surrounding area. The training will focus on rapid action procedures to protect students and staff from a violent intruder.

This training comes on the heels of MVPD participating in a county-wide Active Shooter/Violent Intruders training day lead by the Marin County Sheriff’s Department in August 2022.

During this one-day training, MVPD and School administrators will close the campus to the public and block off areas of the parking lots. During this training event, community members will see a large number of police and fire vehicles, as well as public safety personnel on campus. Community members in the area may also hear yelling or sounds coming from the Middle School.

MVPD will post barricades, signs, and officers around the campus to ensure no one enters the training area. If you are near the campus during the event, please be extra mindful of these signs and barricades, and stay out of the area.
