On October 4, 2022, at approximately 8:52 p.m., officers were dispatched to Blacow Road to a solo vehicle collision into a tree. Fremont Police and Fremont Fire arrived shortly and located the vehicle. The driver (a 17-year-old juvenile) was the only occupant inside the vehicle. Due to the high-speed impact, the vehicle suffered significant damage. Fremont Fire mechanically extricated the juvenile from the vehicle where he was treated on scene, and then transported to a nearby trauma center for non-life-threatening injuries. The juvenile suffered moderate injuries and remained in stable condition.
Fremont Police Department completed the investigation regarding this collision. According to two independent witnesses, the juvenile driver was racing with another vehicle at a high rate of speed and was traveling southbound on Blacow Road between Eggers Drive and Brophy Drive. The juvenile lost control of the vehicle, which caused the vehicle to veer off to the right, jump the frontage road raised curb line, and collide into a tree. The impact severely damaged the passenger side of the vehicle. This collision, and events leading up to the collision, were captured by several nearby surveillance cameras.
Fortunately, the juvenile driver only suffered moderate injuries and there were no other occupants in the vehicle. Any potential occupant in the passenger seat would not have survived the impact of the collision.
Fremont Police Department and the City of Fremont’s Transportation Engineering Team would like to remind the public regarding the importance of proper driver behavior. Drivers have a responsibility to obey speed limits and abide by all rules of the road for the safety of all roadway users. Reckless speeding and aggressive driving can lead to the potential for loss of vehicle control and the increased degree of crash severity, leading to severe injuries and fatalities.
