Armed Texas Fugitive Located in Needles

INCIDENT: Felon in Possession of a Weapon and Fugitive from Justice
LOCATION: Broadway Street and Market Street, Needles, CA.
SUSPECT(S): John Henry Hughes Jr, 75-year-old resident of Weatherford, Texas
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Friday, October 14, 2022, at approximately 11:44 a.m., deputies from the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle, near the intersection of Broadway Street and Market Street in Needles. The vehicle was reported to be driven by a wanted fugitive out of Weatherford, Texas. The driver, John Henry Hughes Jr, was reported to be armed and dangerous and wanted for attempted murder.
Deputies conducted a high risk traffic stop and detained Hughes. He was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a 9mm handgun. Hughes was booked into the Colorado River Station jail for being a felon in possession of a weapon and a fugitive from justice. Hughes is being held on $50,000 bail.
