Woman charged with vehicular manslaughter

UPDATE: On Tuesday, October 18th, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed the following charges against 25-year-old Diana Beatriz Martinez-Umana:

One count: 192 (c)(1) PC – Vehicular Manslaughter with gross negligence.

Two ( 2 ) counts: 20001(b)(2) VC- Hit and run driving resulting in death/serious injury.

Eight ( 8 ) counts: 23103(a) VC – Reckless Driving on highway causing a specified injury.

At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor as the results of the toxicology report are not yet known.



**ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE**

On Friday, October 14th, at approximately 7:43 PM, Pomona Police Department Dispatch received multiple 9-1-1 calls regarding a traffic collision with severe injuries in the area of W. Holt Ave. and Dudley St. Officers and the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived and located one deceased male. Twelve others were injured and transported to a local hospital, with three people in critical condition.

Preliminary information suggests the driver was traveling eastbound on Holt Ave. when she veered into westbound lanes, ultimately crashing into a taco stand and killing one person and injuring twelve others. The vehicle’s driver fled the scene, and Officers began actively searching for her. More than an hour later, the suspect returned to the scene and turned herself in. The female suspect is 26 years old and a resident of Pomona. Identification of the deceased will not be released pending notification to the family.

The female suspect was arrested and booked at the Pomona City Jail. She is currently being held on the following charges:

192(C)(1) PC- Vehicular Manslaughter w/Gross Negligence a Felony

20001(B)(2) VC- Hit and Run: Death/Injury a Felony

It is unsure if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
