The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito October 14th to October 17th, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
October 14th

Identity Theft – 6900 block of Portola Dr.
The victim opened a Bank of America account online and later learned that an unknown suspect fraudulently transferred $52,000.00 into a bank account in Missouri.  
 
October 15th

Stolen Vehicle – 700 block of Albemarle St.
The victims silver 1998 Honda Civic hatchback was stolen last night from 11pm to 9:55am.

Petty Theft – 900 block of Liberty St.
 The victim’s front license plate was stolen from their Honda Civic sometime last night from 11:30pm to 12pm this afternoon. 

Shop Lifting – Ross 2000 El Cerrito Plaza
 At approximately 2:48pm., the suspect entered the store, stole numerous shoes and fled towards Plaza BART.  The suspect was described as a light skinned mixed raced male adult, 20-30 years old, medium build, wearing a black hoodie, brown pants and shoes. 

October 16th

Stolen Vehicle – 1400 block of Kearney St. 
The victim’s Honda motorcycle was stolen sometime from October 14th at 5pm to October 15th at 11:00am 

Assault/Battery on a Police Officer/Resisting Arrest – Chipotle 9901 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 12:20pm, officers were dispatch to the restaurant for a female who assaulted an employee. When officers arrived, they contacted the suspect, a 60 year old female transient sitting outside the business.  The female suspect threw a cup full of water and her food at the officers.  Officers tried to de-escalate the situation, but the female refused to cooperate with them.  While attempting to place the female in handcuffs, she resisted officers.  The female was eventually arrested and transported to the County Jail in Martinez. 

Driving Under the Influence – Potrero Avenue at San Pablo Avenue;
At 6:34 pm an officer was sent to the report of a disturbance at the Chevron Station.  When the officer arrived they found the disturbance was over a vehicle collision that had taken place.  The officer discovered that one of the drivers was heavily intoxicated.  After an investigation they were placed under arrest, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Grand Theft – 11700 block of San Pablo Avenue;
At 4:44 am officers were dispatched to the report that three suspects had just stolen the catalytic converter from a vehicle parked in the area. 
 
October 17th

Strong Armed Robbery – Valero 11687 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 1:20pm, a 61 year old male from Richmond entered the store, simulated as if he had a weapon behind his back, and ordered the clerk to open the cash register and the cabinet to the cigarette cartons.  When the clerk attempted to contact police, the male pushed the clerk to the ground, and fled the store with three cartons of cigarettes and lottery scratchers.

At 2:22pm., an El Cerrito police detective located the male suspect on the eastside of the ARCO gas station on Cutting Blvd at S. 50th St. in Richmond.  The male was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The male was in possession of the stolen property, which was returned to the Valero gas station.   

Shoplifting – 5805 Cutting Blvd. (Sketchers);
At 1812 hours an officer was sent to the report that someone had entered the store, selected merchandise, and left without paying for the items. 
 
Vehicle pursuit – Avis Drive at Stockton Avenue;
At 6:32 pm an officer attempted to pull over a motorcycle for several vehicle code violations however the rider of the motorcycle did not stop.  The vehicle pursuit was cancelled in the name of public safety and the rider got away.
