City Thanks School Resource Officer Kevin Olin for Over 29 Years of Service

School Resource Officer Kevin Olin retires from the Janesville Police Department (JPD) after over 29 years of service to the community.

Officer Olin has served the City of Janesville since his hire with the JPD in February 1993. Originally from Brodhead, he joined the department after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.

Since 1997, Officer Olin has served the community as a School Resource Officer, most recently at Marshall Middle School. He spoke fondly of his time building relationships with Janesville's young learners. He especially valued the opportunity to build trust and friendship with students who may have previously had misconceptions about law enforcement.

In addition to his work in the schools, Officer Olin had various other assignments, including Patrol Officer, Bike Officer, and DARE Officer. He held the role of Breacher and later Assistant Team Leader during his 11 years on the JPD SWAT team. After his time on the team, Officer Olin volunteered to operate the JPD's BearCat tactical vehicle. He also trained fellow officers as a Rapid Response Instructor.

Officer Olin served the community as a certified Car Seat Safety Instructor, training and certifying technicians to install car seats properly. He also attends safety events to help parents verify the safe and proper installation of car seats.

In addition to his impressive list of roles and certifications, he was honored for his excellent work as the City's 2013 Public Safety Employee of the Year.

Officer Olin came to law enforcement with a desire to help people through difficult times in their lives. Throughout his career, he found great reward in assisting community members and empowering them to make better decisions to improve their lives. In his well-deserved retirement, Kevin looks forward to spending more time with family and friends. An avid outdoorsman, he will also take the opportunity to enjoy hunting and fishing.

The City of Janesville would like to thank School Resource Officer Kevin Olin for over 29 years of dedicated service to his community, the Janesville Police Department, and the City of Janesville.
