The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito October 21st to October 23rd, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
October 21st

Vandalism – 700 block of Kearney St.
An unknown suspect used a metal chain and damaged the victim’s vehicle.  The suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult, 20-30 years old, 5’9”, 140lbs., wearing a black t-shirt, and black sweat pants.   The incident occurred at approximately 7:53pm last night. 

Auto Burglary –UPS Store El Cerrito Plaza parking lot
 At approximately 10:06am, a suspect shattered the rear passenger side window to the victim’s parked Chevrolet Spark hatchback with an unknown object.  The suspect stole a NorthFace backpack and fled the area in a white SUV.

Auto Burglary – IHOP 11511 San Pablo Ave parking lot
At approximately 10:11am, the suspect shattered the rear window to the victims Mitsubishi Outlander rental vehicle and stole two backpacks, containing the victim’s passports, laptops and clothing.  A witness captured the suspect vehicle on their cellphone and saw it to be a newer model Acura QX50.  The suspect vehicle fled northbound through the parking lot towards Cutting Blvd.  The suspect was described as a black male adult, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a face mask. 

Stolen Vehicle Attempted – 700 block of Midcrest Way
At approximately 12:25pm the suspect damaged the driver’s side door lock and the ignition to the victims white Chevrolet Express Van.  The incident occurred from October 14th at 12:01am to October 20th at 5pm. 
 
Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 11450 San Pablo Avenue;
At 6:45 pm officers were sent to the report that as the victim was walking the suspect approached him and swung a metal pipe at him while making threats to the victim. 

October 22nd

Commercial Burglary – Starbucks 11861 San Pablo Ave.
The suspect pried open the drive-thru window of the business and stole the credit card reader.  Video surveillance footage showed the suspect opening the drive-thru window at 9:57pm, reach in and steal the credit card reader. 

Grand Theft and Evading Police – 11780 San Pablo Ave. rear parking lot
At approximately 2:59pm, officers responded to a suspect stealing a catalytic converter from a Ford pickup truck.  The suspects fled in an older model silver GMC Yukon.  An El Cerrito police officer located the vehicle traveling southbound on San Pablo Ave at Cutting Blvd.   The vehicle was occupied by at least four suspects.  The officer attempted to stop the vehicle on I-80 East, but it failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.  The vehicle exited San Pablo Dam Rd., but immediately drove back down the embankment and continued on I-80 East.  The officer lost sight of the vehicle and cancelled the pursuit. 
One of the suspects was described as black male adult, wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.  The other suspect was described as a black male adult wearing a white t-shirt. 

Grand Theft – 200 block of Behrens St.
The suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victims Toyota Prius. The theft occurred from October 21st at 11am to October 22nd at 2pm. 

Grand Theft – 10650 San Pablo Avenue (CVS);
At 6:31 pm an officer was sent to the report that three suspects entered the store selected $1000.00 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying for the items. 

October 23rd
 
Commercial Burglary – 10398 San Pablo Avenue (Subway);
At 4:02 am officers were sent to the business for the report of the burglar alarm going off.  When the officers arrived they found the front door pried open.  The suspects attempted to steal items from inside the store. 

Commercial Burglary – All Star Donuts 3070 El Cerrito Plaza
Three suspects pried the front door open and used a sledge hammer to access the money in the ATM machine.  The suspects stole the money from the ATM, cash from a small box under the cash register, the cash register itself, a package of toilet paper and two cases of water from the back storage unit.  The suspects wore dark hooded sweatshirts, mask covering their faces and gloves.
