ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Saldana was processed at Amsterdam Police Headquarters where he then was arraigned in front of the Honorable Lisa W. Lorman and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On October 19th at approximately 1:00a.m. Amsterdam Police were notified of a burglary that occurred at the Inhale Smoke Shop on Division Street. Amsterdam patrol officers responded to the business where they determined that a male suspect had forced entry into the business through the front door. Subsequently entering the store stealing multiple cartons of cigarettes, a quantity of money, and lighters from inside the store before fleeing the area on foot. Officers were able to secure surveillance footage of the incident from the store and surrounding areas. Through further investigation police identified a suspect as Michael R. Saldana based on surveillance footage and evidence located at the scene.
On October 24th at approximately 1:00a.m., Amsterdam Police patrols were dispatched to Inhale Smoke Shop for a commercial burglary alarm. Upon police arrival a representative of the store was on scene and advised that a front window to the store was damaged. Upon review of surveillance footage a male suspect is seen attempting to again entry to the store by throwing a brick at a store window breaking it then trying to enter the store through the broken window. The male fled the store as the alarmed sounded prior to him making entry to the store. A description of the male was transmitted to other officers to be on the lookout for the suspect.
At Approximately 4:00a.m. On October 24th patrol officers located a male walking on Pulaski Street matching the description of the suspect who hours before attempted to make entry to the store. Patrol officers conducted a field interview on a male, who they knew to be Michael R. Saldana. The patrol officers having knowledge of Saldana being a suspect in a prior burglary attempted to detain Saldana. As officers attempted to detain Saldana he attempted to flee from officers and a brief struggle ensued. Saldana was then taken into custody and during a search incident to arrest officer’s located evidence on his person linking him to the attempted burglary earlier that morning. One of the arresting officers suffered an injury to his knee while taking Saldana into custody.
Saldana was brought back to Amsterdam Police Headquarters where he was processed on the above charges and held for arraignment.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
