Suspects arrested after deadly south campus shooting
On October 25th, detectives arrested three suspects in connection with a recent shooting that occurred in the south campus area.
On October 8th at 1:05 am, four men were walking back to their vehicle after spending a night out in the south campus area. While the four men were walking near Telegraph and Durant, two suspects approached the group and started a fight. During that fight, both suspects pulled out guns and opened fire—striking all four men and causing numerous people in the area to flee from the gunfire. As a result of that gunfire, one of the men (a 29-year-old man) did not survive his injuries.
Since that time, detectives spent many hours continuing the investigation. After speaking with witnesses, reviewing video footage from the area, and following-up on other investigative leads, detectives were able to identify three suspects in connection with the shooting. Detectives then obtained warrants for their arrest.
On the night of October 25th, Berkeley PD detectives along with the US Marshals Northern California Fugitive Task Force performed simultaneous search/arrest warrants in Oakland and Union City where they took all three suspects into custody. During the search/arrest warrants, a number of firearms were recovered—including several un-serialized guns (AKA ghost guns) as well as evidence that other ghost guns were being produced there.
This shooting was one of the most horrific acts of violence our community has experienced in recent memory. We are thankful we were able to bring those responsible for the violence to justice and we are grateful for the community’s continued support.
