The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
October 24th
Vandalism - 900 Block of Kearney St
An unknown suspect caused damage to a window of the house. Most likely caused by a BB gun. It’s unknown when this occurred.
Shoplift – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 8:30 PM, a frequent thief known to employees of Ross as, “The Shoe Guy” entered Ross, selected several pairs of women’s shoes estimated at $250, and left the store without paying.
Warrant Arrest – 1900 block of Downey Pl:
At 11:10 PM, an officer was dispatched to a report of a suspicious person lingering near the driveway of the residence and singing loudly. The 56 year old Richmond man was found to have a no bail Richmond PD warrant for shooting into an inhabited dwelling and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the county jail.
October 25th
Retail Theft – Marshall’s
An officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 56-year-old Oakland man after he entered the store and filled a suitcase full merchandise. The man fled the store without paying and was detained. The man was issued a citation and released at the scene.
Organized Retail Theft – 11545 San Pablo Ave (Ross) –
At 9:55 PM, approximately 15 suspects entered Ross in several apparently affiliated small groups of 2 to 6 suspects at a time within the last 30 minutes the store was open. The group stole assorted merchandise tentatively estimated at over $5000.
October 26th
Grand Theft – 600 block of Albemarle St:
At 5:30 AM, two suspects stole the catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius.
Suspicious Circumstance – El Cerrito High School
The El Cerrito Police Department responded to the El Cerrito High School after school staff received second hand information of a possible weapon on campus. School officials initiated a lockdown of the campus while officers and staff searched several students, backpacks, lockers, and classrooms. Despite a thorough search of the campus and surrounding area, no weapon was located.
Strong Arm Robbery – Safeway
An unknown male suspect entered the business and stole items. As the suspect exited the business he was confronted by store security. The suspect assaulted security and fled the area.
October 27th
Domestic Battery – 800 Block of Liberty St
A 43-year-old El Cerrito man was arrested after assaulting his wife during an argument. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Brandishing – Ohlone Green Way / Manila Ave
An unknown subject chased after the victim with a large stick. No injuries reported.
Grand Theft – 10200 Block of San Pablo Ave
Unknown suspect stole the victims’ catalytic converter sometime overnight.
Auto Theft – 6400 Block of Portola Dr
Unknown suspect stole the victims’ vehicle sometime overnight.
License Plate Theft – 700 Block of Everett St
Unknown suspect stole the front license plate of the victims’ vehicle sometime overnight.
Vandalism (Suspected Hate Crime) – 8200 block of Terrace Dr:
An unidentified suspect painted a small (apx. 1 foot wide) anti-semitic symbol on the driveway of a residence between 6:15-6:45 PM.
