Morgan Hill Police Detectives Make Four (4) Arrests in Connection with Two Homicide Cases

Morgan Hill Police Detectives have solved two murder cases that occurred in May 2020 and July 2021.
 
On May 29, 2020, Michael Duran (18 y/o) was driving north on Butterfield Boulevard near Fisher Avenue when he was shot and killed by an occupant in another vehicle. 
 
On July 19, 2021, Humberto Cossio (33 y/o) was shot and killed as he walked through the intersection of Monterey Road and Spring Avenue.  
 
The Morgan Hill Police Department extends our condolences to the families of Michael Duran and Humberto Cossio, and we thank them for their patience and support during our lengthy investigations.   We hope our Detectives have provided a step forward in bringing closure to the families.
 
On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, members of the Morgan Hill/Gilroy Regional SWAT team arrested Luis Gomez-Guerra (19 y/o) for the homicide of Michael Duran. On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, and Thursday, October 27, 2022, Morgan Hill/Gilroy Regional SWAT team arrested Ricardo Catalan-Murga (18 y/o), a 17 y/o youth, and a 15 y/o youth, for the homicide of Humberto Cossio. The 17 y/o youth was in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest.
 
Luis Gomez-Guerra and Ricardo Catalan-Murga were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of Penal Code 187(A) - Murder and Penal Code 186.22(a) - Participation in a criminal street gang. The two youths were booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on charges of Penal Code 187(A) - Murder and Penal Code 186.22(a) – Participation in a criminal street gang.
 
The Morgan Hill Police Department is proud of our Detective team’s work. We also extend our appreciation to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and other allied agencies for their partnership and collaboration with these cases.
