IMPD homicide detectives arrest suspect in a 2019 double homicide.

IMPD homicide detectives arrested 25-year-old Craig Chambers for his alleged involvement in a 2019 double homicide.

INDIANAPOLIS - On Monday, October 7, 2019, just before 3:30 p.m., IMPD East District officers were dispatched to 7319 Orinoco Ave, on a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male, who sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s). Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) arrived and transported the victim, later identified as 22-year-old Lamont Day Jr., to an area hospital in critical condition. Shortly after arrival, Day was pronounced deceased by medical staff.

During this investigation, officers were directed to the adjacent parking lot where they located a second adult male victim inside a vehicle. That male also sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s). IEMS arrived and unfortunately pronounced the second victim, later identified as 24-year-old Gary Miller II, deceased at the scene.

IMPD homicide detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation.

Preliminary information led investigators to believe both incidents were related. The investigation continued and detectives were able to identify Chambers as a suspect in the incident. Thanks to the outstanding work by the Violent Crimes Unit and the US Marshalls, Chambers was located on October 31, 2022, and arrested without further incident for murder.

The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to identify and collect potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) assisted and determined the exact cause of death to be homicide.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) will review the case and make the final charging decision.
