The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito October 28th to October 31st, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
October 28th

Vandalism – 1300 block of Liberty St.
An unknown suspect pried open the community mailbox at the apartment complex, however, no mail had been reported stolen. 

Robbery – San Pablo Avenue at Hill Street;
At 6:42 pm officers were sent to this intersection for the report of a fight.  When officers arrived they found the victim that had been beaten.  The victim reported that the suspect approached started beating and kicking them, and stole some of their property.

Grand Theft, Felon in possession of pepper spray, and arrest warrant – 10759 San Pablo Avenue (Ross);
At 7:24 pm an officer saw two suspects exiting the fire exit doors of the business pushing two shopping carts full of unpaid merchandise.  One of the suspects fled and the officer was able to detain the other suspect.  The shopping carts contained over $2000.00 worth of merchandise.   The suspect was found in possession of pepper spray that they were prohibited from possession since they had a Manslaughter conviction.  They were also found to have a warrant for their arrest issued by Santa Clara County.  They were booked at ECPD and then transported to MDF. 

Organized Retail Theft – 11545 San Pablo Avenue (Ross);
At 8:41 pm an officer was sent to the report that two people entered the store, grabbed armfuls of clothing.  When store employees bluffed the suspects and told them the police were outside waiting for them one of the suspects dropped his items and fled.  The other left with the store with approximately $700.00 worth of merchandise.

October 29th

Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Avenue at Hill Street;
At 3:41 am officers were sent to the report of a solo vehicle collision with a traffic signal light.  Officers arrived and found the driver to be heavily intoxicated.  The suspect was transported to the hospital for their injuries.  An officer authored a search warrant for the driver’s blood and served the warrant at the hospital. 

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross);
At 8:48 pm an officer reports that two suspects came into the store, selected items, and left without paying for the merchandise. 

October 30th

Vandalism – 180 El Cerrito Plaza
At approximately 7:52am, officers responded to a glass-break alarm at the business.  Officers located a shattered side window next to the front doors that was still intact.  The suspect never entered the business.  

Petty Theft – 6500 block of Central Ave.
An unknown suspect stole a small statue from the front yard of the victim’s residence sometime last night. 

Vandalism – 1000 block of Liberty St.
Last night between 10pm to 9:45am this morning, an unknown suspect scratched the front passenger side door to the victims gray vehicle.

Petty Theft – 800 block of Lexington Avenue;
At 6:20 pm an officer was sent to the report that someone had stolen an item from an unlocked vehicle. 

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross);
At 7:00 pm officers were sent to the report that a suspect had just stolen items from the store and fled.  One of the officers located the suspect at the Plaza Bart Station and detained them.  They were positively identified as the suspect by the Ross employee and were placed under citizen’s arrest.  The stolen items were returned to the store.  The arrestee was booked at ECPD and released with a citation. 
 
October 31st

Possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and Identity Theft;
At 3:28 am an officer stopped a person in the El Cerrito Plaza.  The person was on probation with a search clause and during the search the officer found suspected Methamphetamine, a Meth pipe, and a driver’s license that did not belong to him. 
 
Grand Theft – 3400 block of Carlson Blvd.
At approximately 10:07am a 20 year old male relative stole his aunt’s partner’s cell phone and fled the residence after a verbal argument.  The male allegedly transferred money, via a cash app, from the stolen cell phone to his cell phone.  The male was detained by police, denied all allegations and did not have the cell phone on his person.  The male was placed under citizen’s arrest and released on a citation.
