The Petaluma Police Department has continued to respond to DUI related investigations since the Halloween weekend, and over the past two days, there have been two additional arrests for DUI, following a collision.
On 11/02/2022 at approximately 8:26 PM, a Petaluma PD DUI Enforcement Officer responded to a report of a vehicle that had collided with a parked vehicle and then left the scene. Officers were given information that led them to the suspect vehicle that was back at their residence in Petaluma.
The DUI Officer spoke with the suspected driver who was identified as Sara Fairchild and had her perform a series of Field Sobriety Tests, which lead the officer to conclude that she had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested for DUI. At the conclusion of the investigation, she was booked at the Sonoma County Jail for DUI, Hit and Run and violating the terms of her probation.
No one was hurt during the incident.
On 11/03/2022 at approximately 7:19 PM, a Petaluma PD DUI Enforcement Officer responded to another report of a vehicle that had hit multiple cars near the intersection of Mountain View Avenue and Petaluma Boulevard South. A concerned citizen followed the suspect vehicle and continue to report its location to responding Petaluma PD units. While officers were en-route, it was reported that the driver had collided with a garbage can and was dragging it under her vehicle.
Petaluma officers were able to catch up to the suspect vehicle on I Street as it entered county jurisdiction, and an enforcement stop was conducted. The driver was identified as Ann Halley, who appeared to be intoxicated and a DUI investigation was initiated. It was determined that she was operating a motor vehicle at nearly three times the legal limit and was arrested.
Halley was later booked at the Sonoma County Jail for DUI and violating the terms of her probation.
No one was injured during the incident.
The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the concerned community members in both incidents who provided vital information to the Petaluma PD Dispatch Center.
The Petaluma Police Department has been committed to increasing traffic safety and reducing the number of alcohol related collisions. The Petaluma Police advise motorists to plan ahead if you are going out and consuming alcohol. Please designate a sober driver, share a ride, or use transport services/companies. Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
