Take Five Briefing - 11/1

Here is the latest Take Five briefing from the November 1, 2022 meeting of the Mayor and Borough Council.

1) Property Revaluation Update: Councilwoman Kim-Chohan reported that our revaluation contractor, Professional Property Appraisers (PPA), inspected nearly 1,559 residential properties and 14 commercial properties as of October 28, 2022. Their counterpart, BRB Valuation & Consulting, has completed inspections of the 44 unique commercial/apartment properties and are in the process of assembling their commercial market data. Residents that would like to request an appointment for their inspection may do so by calling PPA at 1-866-957-1388.  Click here for more information on the revaluation program.

2) Community Blood Drive, Nov. 9:  For the second time in less than three months, New Jersey faces a critically low level of available blood.  Councilmember Hersh encouraged residents to roll up their sleeves and donate on Wednesday, November 9 between 12 PM and 6 PM at the Highland Park Community Center.  We need at least 50 donors to sign-up in advance to make this happen. To register, visit nybc.org/drive and enter sponsor code “65031” or call 1-800-933-2566. Many thanks to resident-volunteer Joe Romano and Community Services Director Kim McGraw for making this happen!

3) Safe Routes to School Public Information Center, Nov. 9: The preliminary engineering is complete for Phase II of the Borough’s Safe Routes to School Project. Improvements will include ADA accessible curb ramps, sidewalks, crosswalks, signage, and striping at key locations near the public schools. A Public Information Center to review the project details, including preliminary engineering drawings, will be held on Wednesday, November 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Borough Hall Council Chambers. The meeting is an open house format, so please come at a time convenient to you.

4) Election Day, Nov. 8:  Mayor Brill Mittler reminded residents to show up at the polls to vote on Tuesday, November 8.  Early voting is available from Saturday, October 29 through Sunday, November 6 at any one of Middlesex County’s designated in-person early voting locations. On Election Day, polls open at 6 AM and close at 8 PM. Click here to find your polling location.

5) Amendment to Vehicle Parking Regulations: Council voted to table Ordinance No. 22-2062 and proceeded to introduce an amended version, Ordinance No. 22-2063, which would remove the “no parking” prohibition on the east side of River Road between Raritan Avenue to a point 50 feet from the Walter Avenue intersection, except for when there is snow. The amendment was made to address concerns raised about visibility for vehicles making a left turn from Walter Avenue to River Road. A public hearing on the ordinance will take place at the Tuesday, November 22nd Council meeting at 7 PM.
