Witherspoon Street Phase 1 Construction Update for the Week of November 7th (Princeton Engineering Dept.)

Week of November 7-11, 2022*

Concrete barriers have been installed on Witherspoon Street between Nassau Street and Spring Street. Motorists should proceed with caution, follow the 25 MPH speed limit and adhere to the STOP sign at Spring Street.

  • Earle Asphalt will not be on site, Monday November 7th.
  • The concrete barrier has been adjusted to establish the Stage 2 work zone on the east side of Witherspoon St. On Tuesday, November 8th, Earle Asphalt will continue excavating and grading for the concrete roadway slab and removal of existing curb.
  • Similar to Stage 1, a 4-5 foot wide walking path nearest to the frontage of the eastern businesses will remain for pedestrian traffic.
  • J. Fletcher Creamer will be on site continuing their remaining underground utility work in the Stage 2 work zone. This work is expected to continue through the week.
  • Earle Asphalt will be on site, Friday November 11th. Municipal Offices will be closed for Veteran's Day.

Traffic and Parking
  • The active travel lane has shifted onto the new paver roadway.
  • Witherspoon Street will remain open to traffic traveling northbound. Stopping, Standing or Loading is not allowed in the travel lane. Parking is not available between Nassau Street and Spring Street during construction.
  • Motorists should follow posted detours when applicable.
  • Palmer Square, Spring Street Parking Garage, Hulfish Parking Garage and the Griggs Corner Lot will be open and accessible. Residents and visitors are strongly encouraged to utilize the parking garages as on-street parking is VERY limited.
  • A new temporary loading zone was installed on Witherspoon Street between Hulfish Street and Paul Robeson Place / Wiggins Street, along the curb at Hinds Plaza and the public library. All Business delivery trucks shall utilize designated loading zones and crosswalks. Stopping in the travel lane to load or unload is prohibited. Other available loading zones are on Nassau Street, Spring Street, and Hulfish Street.
