Narrative:
On November 02, 2022, at approximately 9:51 a.m., detectives from the Thousand Oaks Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU) arrested Michael Erickson for carrying a loaded firearm, being under the influence of a controlled substance with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, prohibited person in possession of ammunition and possession of a controlled substance.

In October 2022, detectives obtained information indicating Erickson was unlawfully in possession of a firearm.  During the course of the investigation, detectives from DEU determined Erickson was prohibited from owning, possessing, or purchasing a firearm and ammunition due to a prior criminal conviction.  Detectives obtained a search warrant for Erickson and his residence.

On November 02, 2022, detectives contacted Erickson near the 3300 Block of Kimber Drive.  Erickson was found to have a loaded concealed firearm on his person.  Additionally, Erickson admitted to being under the influence of a controlled substance while in possession of the loaded firearm.

Detectives responded to Erickson’s residence and served the search warrant.  Detectives searched Erickson’s residence and located multiple firearm magazines, ammunition, and a useable amount of methamphetamine.

Based on the investigation, Erickson was arrested for the above listed charges.  Erickson was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail and is being held on a $100,000 bail.

The Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU) is made up of members of the Thousand Oaks Police Department. The mission of the unit is to conduct proactive policing utilizing intelligence led policing methods to reduce crime within the city of Thousand Oaks.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind its citizens to store their firearms safely and securely to prevent unauthorized use.  Firearms and ammunition should be always stored separately. When the firearm is not in your hands, you must still think of firearms safety.  The Sheriff’s Office recommends using an approved firearms safety device to securely store any firearms.
