Fairfield Police Department’s New Police Chief, Dan Marshall, Has Been Sworn In

Yesterday, the City's new Police Chief, Dan Marshall, was sworn in during a ceremony at Fairfield’s Downtown Theatre.

Family, friends, and staff alike celebrated as Chief Marshall was pinned by his father, Dan Marshall, and sworn-in by retired Police Chief, Deanna Cantrell.

In 1999, twenty-three years ago almost to the day, Dan Marshall was hired by the Fairfield Police Department. He has enjoyed a variety of assignments over the course of his career that helped prepare him for his new role.

During his remarks, Chief Marshall thanked his family,

mentors, peers and regional and community partners. He also expressed his plans for the future of the department and its continued focus on reducing crime, the fear of crime, nuisance, and homelessness through technology, innovative ideas, and with the support of the department’s staff.

Of retired Chief Cantrell he said, “Chief Cantrell came into Fairfield as an agent of change.  She redirected our focus on community engagement and relationship building while also diversifying our department.  She worked with Command Staff to establish a 3-year strategic plan, which will be implemented.  She set our department in the right direction, and I want to reassure everyone that we will keep pressing on.”

He went on to discuss the responsibility law enforcement officers have to the communities they serve, “Law enforcement exists to make others' lives better. We impact lives daily; the example we set at a community event, an empathetic gesture to someone in crisis or need, or a courageous act of saving a life or running into danger when others are running out. We should strive to make others' lives better.”

“Policing is the noblest of professions,” he continued, “and I am proud to be a part of it. I am humbled and honored to lead and serve the men and women of one of the finest policing organizations in the nation, the Fairfield Police Department, and I look forward to what the future holds.”
