Late night vehicle racing 100 mph crashes off roadway into Safeway parking lot!
On Wednesday November 9th, 2022, at 12:43 a.m., Officers from the Santa Rosa Police Department responded to a report of a major traffic collision with injuries in the area of Highway 12 and Calistoga Rd. The reporting party stated a black Infiniti sedan, traveling at a high rate of speed, had left the roadway, and collided with a tree before coming to a rest in the Safeway parking lot near the intersection. The driver of the Infinity was conscious upon arrival of officers on scene, but was pinned inside the vehicle.
Santa Rosa Fire and Sonoma Life Support arrived and quickly worked to extricate the driver and solo occupant of the Infinity. The driver was transported to a local hospital for major injuries to his upper body and head as a result of the collision and is in stable condition at this time.
Initial reports indicate that the driver of the Infiniti was traveling westbound on Highway 12 at speeds in excess of 90-100 mph just prior to the collision. The driver was racing a second vehicle along the roadway at the time. The driver lost control of the Infinity sedan before striking the center median and traveling across the number one and number two westbound lanes of Highway 12. The vehicle left the roadway colliding into several trees and landscaping and ultimately coming to rest in the Safeway parking lot.
SRPD Traffic Accident Investigators responded to the scene and took over the investigation. This investigation is still ongoing at this time as they work to positively identify the driver and determine if alcohol played a factor in the collision. Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Officer Ken Ferrigno of the Santa Rosa Police Department Traffic Division at (707)543-3636. Press inquiries can also be directed to Sergeant Matt Crosbie at [email protected].
