Weather Update #4: Tropical Storm Nicole
Tropical Storm Nicole has caused extensive erosion and escarpment along Jekyll Island beaches and damage to beach crossovers and shoreline revetments.
The Jekyll Island Authority declared a precautionary State of Emergency effective Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 8:00 a.m., and will remain in effect until it expires on November 13, 2022, at 11:59 p.m., unless renewed.
The Executive Order has vested the Jekyll Island State Park Authority Executive Director with the authority in the event of an emergency to take such actions and to issue reasonable orders as necessary to promote and secure the safety and protection of the public on Jekyll Island.
All beach crossovers are closed to the public at this time and should not be accessed due to ongoing safety concerns and the risk of further damage.
New Closures
- Shell Road; entrance to Red Bug Pizza remains open.
- Multiple bike paths and trails are closed. If you see traffic cones or signage, do not enter.
- The following beach crossovers have sustained significant damage:
- Bliss, Oceanview Beach Park, South Dunes Picnic Area, and Glory Beach.
- Clam Creek Road and Pier remain closed.
- Skimmer Lane & the DNR Boat Ramp remain closed.
The following Jekyll Island Authority facilities are expected to reopen Friday, November 11:
- Jekyll Island Golf Club (limited course play on Friday)
- Jekyll Island Tennis Center (limited court play on Friday)
- Jekyll Island Bikes & Mini Golf
- Jekyll Island Historic Trolley Tours, Cottages & Faith Chapel
In observance of Veteran's Day, Glynn County Schools remain closed Friday, November 11.
As a reminder, the area is currently under a Tropical Storm Warning. There is a potential for surge flooding/heavy rainfall, tropical-storm-force winds, and isolated tornado threats Thursday through Friday evening.
