UPDATE: Three Santa Rosa High School Students Arrested for Detonating Fireworks on School Campus

Updated Media Release
Today, Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 10:35 am, the Santa Rosa Police Department received several phone calls from people believing they heard an “explosion” or fireworks on the campus of Santa Rosa High School. Officers from SRPD and other local law enforcement agencies immediately responded.

Officers were able to quickly determine there was no active threat to students or staff at the high school. With the assistance of school officials, officers were able to identify two students that detonated the firework and a third student that brought the firework onto campus. All three students were arrested for a misdemeanor (Possession of an Explosive Device). The students were each 15-years-old males, and they attended SRHS. No additional information will be released about the students because of their age. No student or staff member was injured.

The students detonated the firework in a breezeway between two school buildings. Students and staff thought it could have been a bomb or possibly an active shooter on campus. Students fled the immediate area. School officials evacuated the area where the loud explosion came from and had other students shelter-in-place, while officers searched the campus. School officials are conducting an administrative investigation related to the incident and the students involved.
