Gloucester Township Police Media Release- GTPD Respond to ShopRite Trailer Fire 11-12-2022
On Saturday, November 12, 2022, at approximately 7:56 am, GTPD responded to the ShopRite on Blackwood-Clementon Road for a report of a fire in the rear of the business.
Upon arrival, officers observed heavy smoke and flames coming from a refrigerated trailer in the rear loading dock of the business. The fire quickly spread to the rear of the building. All occupants were safely evacuated from the business and one employee was transported to a local hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.
Gloucester Township Fire Department personnel from Gloucester Township Squad 88, Chews Landing Fire Department, Blackwood Fire Company, Lambs Terrace Fire Company, Gloucester Township Fire District 6/ Erial FD, Pine Hill Fire Department, Lindenwold Fire Department, and Runnemede Fire Department arrived on location and extinguished the fire. The Camden County Fire Marshal's Office, Camden County Health Department, and Gloucester Township, New Jersey Building Inspector also responded. A section of College Drive was closed for several hours, while fire crews were working to extinguish the fire.
While this incident does not appear to be suspicious at this time, it is being investigated by the Gloucester Township Police Department and the Camden County Fire Marshal's Office.
This is a reminder to check your fire suppression systems and alert / audible alarm systems to ensure they are operational. Smoke alarms are a key part of any fire escape plan. When there is smoke, there is fire which can spread quickly. Working smoke alarms give you early warning, so you can get outside quickly.
