Proactive traffic stop leads to seizure of a firearm with an extended magazine
On Sunday, November 13, 2022, at approximately 4:07 p.m., an officer with the Santa Rosa Police Department was patrolling the 700-block of Third Street when he observed a driver of a vehicle commit a moving violation. When the officer began following the vehicle, he saw the vehicle had an equipment violation. When the officer contacted the occupants of the vehicle, an odor of freshly burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. He then learned one of the passengers was on probation with search terms. When the officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle, he saw an extended magazine protruding from an open zippered bag on the driver’s side floorboard. Upon further inspection of the bag, the officer learned the magazine was loaded with 31 rounds (instead of the 30 rounds the magazine was designed to hold) and seated in a Polymer80 9mm non-serialized firearm.
Eric Ramirez-Santos, the driver of the vehicle and 22-year-old Santa Rosa resident, was arrested and booked into county jail for the following charges:
25850(a) PC – Felony carrying of a loaded firearm in a vehicle
25850(c)(6) PC – Felony possession of an unregistered firearm
