IMPD Covert Robbery Detectives Make a Robbery Arrest

INDIANAPOLIS – On Thursday, November 9th, 2022, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Covert Robbery detectives arrested 43-year-old James Bennett for his alleged role in two armed robberies.

On Monday, October 24th, 2022, just after 2:00 p.m. IMPD Southwest District officers responded to the 6400 block of W. Washington Street on a report of an armed robbery. Officers learned a white male with face tattoos entered the business and brandished a firearm while demanding money. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of money prior to the officer’s arrival. Investigators were able to match the suspect vehicle provided to them by camera footage. Detectives were able to use crime fighting technology to identify the suspect vehicle.

On Friday, November 4, 2022, just before 9:00 p.m., IMPD East district officers responded to the 9700 block of E. Washington St. on the report of a disturbance with a firearm. Officers arrived and learned that a white male with tattoos on his face had entered the business, demanded money, and left prior to the officers’ arrivals.

Detectives gathered information which supported both robberies were conducted by the same person. On Thursday, November 9th, 2022, covert robbery detectives located the suspect vehicle and with the assistance of IMPD Northwest District. Officers conducted a stop and detained the suspected vehicle and the driver, later identified as James Bennett. Detectives continued their investigation and with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Bennett was subsequently arrested for his alleged role in the armed robberies.
