INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Bear Valley Road and Locust Avenue
DRIVER #1: 80-year-old Male (major injuries)
VEHICLE #1: Buick La Sabre
PASSENGER #1: 79-year-old Female (deceased)
DRIVER #2: 37 -year-old Female (minor injuries)
VEHICLE #2: Ford Explorer
PASSENGER #2: 18-year-old Male (not injured)
SUMMARY: On Monday, November 14, 2022, at approximately 1:35 p.m., deputies from the Hesperia Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a traffic collision on Bear Valley Road at the intersection of Locust Avenue, in Hesperia.
Upon arrival, deputies determined an 80-year-old male, driving a Buick La Sabre traveled west on Bear Valley Road in the left hand turn lane and a 37-year-old female, driving a Ford Explorer traveled east on Bear Valley Road in the #1 lane. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Buick made a left-hand turn in front of the Ford against the traffic signals solid red light. The front end of the Ford collided into the passenger side of the Buick.
Despite life saving measures, the passenger of the Buick was pronounced deceased on scene by emergency personnel. The driver of the Buick was transported to a trauma center for treatment of major injuries. The driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries. At this time, it has not been determined if drugs and/or alcohol were factor.
Identification of the passenger of the Buick is pending notification of next of kin. Bear Valley Road from Cottonwood Avenue to Balsam Avenue was closed for several hours while deputies from the Hesperia Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) processed the scene.
