CEMETERY BROOK DRAIN TUNNEL PROJECT
NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
THURSDAY NOVEMBER 17, 2022 at 7:00 PM
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS - 475 VALLEY STREET
A public meeting will be held on Thursday, November 17th at 7:00 pm at the Department of Public Works at 475 Valley Street to discuss the Cemetery Brook Drain Tunnel (CBDT) Project. The City of Manchester’s Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and their consulting engineer CDM Smith will conduct this meeting.
This project is part of the city’s Consent Decree with the United States Environmental Protection Agency to conduct a $300 million, 20-year Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) mitigation program. The CBDT will remove Cemetery Brook drainage flows from the city’s combined sewer system and will ultimately support the future separation of remaining drainage from the combined sewer system in the city’s largest drainage basin over the next 20 years. This project will improve water quality in the Merrimack River by reducing CSO discharge during heavy rain events and reduce average daily flows to the Manchester Wastewater Treatment Facility.
The CBDT will be approximately two miles long starting at the Merrimack River south of the Queen City Bridge and ending on Mammoth Road. The CBDT will be 12-foot interior diameter constructed at depths between 30-80 feet below ground surface. The majority of construction activity will be at the tunnel launch site adjacent to the Merrimack River and at seven access shaft sites along the project route.
If you cannot attend the meeting and have any questions, please call Frederick J. McNeill, P.E., Chief Engineer of EPD at (603) 624-6341.
