LOCATION: East I-40 Freeway and Hector Road, Newberry Springs
SUSPECT: Mike Wayne Baley, 43-year-old Resident of Phelan
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at approximately 9:55 a.m., deputies from the Barstow Station were dispatched to a grand theft auto call in the rural area off the I-40 Freeway and Hector Road, in Newberry Springs. The victim reported leaving several off-road vehicles in a rural area of Newberry Springs the previous day. The victim returned to the location Wednesday morning and discovered a blue 2004 Yamaha Grizzly 660 had been stolen.
On Thursday, November 17, 2022, at approximately 11:49 a.m., deputies observed a rental truck, on the I-40 Freeway, hauling a blue Yamaha Grizzly that matched the description of the one stolen the previous day. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and confirmed it to be the stolen quad. Mike Wayne Baley was arrested and booked into Bartow Jail for California Vehicle Code 10851-Grand Theft Auto.
