Petaluma PD Participates in DEA 23rd Annual Drug Take Back Day

On October 29, 2022, the Petaluma Police Department participated in the DEA National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day by hosting a local prescription drug take back drop-off location.
Numerous Petaluma community members stopped by the police department to drop off unused or unwanted prescription medications.  Petaluma Police Department accepted hundreds of pounds of medication in just a few hours.  The SF Bay Area collected approximately 20,452 pounds during this one day.

California had 153 Law Enforcement agencies participate in the event.  Americans nationwide did their part to reduce the opioid crisis by turning over 647,163 pounds of drugs and medications.  Since the beginning of this program over 16,636,729 pounds of drugs and medications have been collected nationally.

The Petaluma Police Department is committed to helping our community safely dispose of potentially harmful prescription drugs while working to reduce the addiction and overdose deaths plaguing this country due to opioid medications.

Additionally, the Petaluma Police Department has partnered with the Ellis Creek Water Treatment Plant and the Safe Medicine Disposal Program to provide a prescription medication disposal drop-off location daily.  The drop-off location is located in the lobby of the Petaluma Police Department at 969 Petaluma Blvd. N. and for more information regarding what medications are accepted and about the program visit the website http://www.safemedicinedisposal.org/drop-off-locations/.
