Residential Burglaries
Over the past few weeks, the Central Marin Police Authority has received an uptick in residential burglaries.
The residential burglaries are occurring when residents are out of town or even just away from their home for a few hours. They are occurring during the late afternoon and early evening hours, and entry is being made by force to the rear of the houses.
To keep your homes safe, please remember to take the following steps when you are leaving your house:
- Lock all of your doors, windows, and side gates.
- Close all of your blinds and curtains.
- Keep lights on in the interior and exterior of your house. If possible, use a timer or smart device to turn your lights on and off throughout the day and night.
- Try to avoid having packages delivered while you are away.
- If possible, install and monitor smart doorbell and motion activated cameras. Pay attention to their alerts and do not silence them on your phones.
If you are heading out of town, please take these additional steps:
- Put a hold on all of your deliveries, mail, and newspapers.
- Ask trusted neighbors and family members to keep a watch on your house while you are out of town.
- Advise them if anyone will be working on or visiting your house while you are away.
- Have them call 9-1-1 right away if they observe anything suspicious.
- Notify the Central Marin Police at (415) 927-5150 of the dates your house will be vacant.
