HIGH WIND WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING... * WHAT...Southeast winds with gusts up to 70 mph possible. * WHERE...Sitka, Port Alexander, Kake, Prince of Wales Island, Wrangell, Ketchikan, and Annette Island. * WHEN...From Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening. * IMPACTS...Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.
Flood Watch
Where: The following areas, Prince of Wales, Southern Inner Channels and Central Inner Channels. This includes the cities of Petersburg, Kake, Port Alexander, Craig, Klawock, Hydaburg,Coffman Cove, Thorne Bay, Wrangell, Ketchikan, And Metlakatla
When: through Thursday Morning
Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, other low-lying areas and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. Additional details: A strong and moist weather system will move over the area on Wednesday to produce 2 to 3.5 inches of rain with localized higher amounts.
Wednesday afternoon will be the period of the heaviest rain rates. Rivers and streams are already high previous rainfall and small streams may rise quickly to be near or exceed bankful levels.
The potential for flooding may persist into Thursday if the heavy rainfall last longer.
