Police arrested a woman on Sunday morning after she broke into an unoccupied residence, the very same home she had burglarized six months ago while the family was inside.
On Sunday, November 20, 2022, at about 10:59 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call reporting a burglary in progress at a residence in the 100 block of Alma Street with the suspect still inside the home. The victim, a man in his forties, was out of town with his family and had observed the suspect inside his home via video surveillance. The victim recognized the suspect as the same woman whom he had confronted back in May when she broke a glass panel on the front door and was attempting to gain entry into his home. Police arrested the suspect a short distance away after she fled the scene on foot (read the news release we distributed about that arrest on May 14, 2022).
When officers arrived on Sunday morning, they found that the glass panel on the front door had again been shattered. They saw the suspect inside, sleeping on a sofa. The house appeared to have been rummaged through, thought at the time of this report no property appears to be missing. Officers arrested the woman without incident. The suspect initially provided police with a false name.
The victim reviewed past video surveillance and was able to determine that the suspect broke in around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, and had remained in the house overnight. There is no known connection between the suspect and this home or the residents of it. Repeat burglaries of the same home by the same suspect are not common.
Police booked 48-year-old Kathleen Joan Cuadros of Palo Alto into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for residential burglary (a felony), vandalism (a felony this time, as the victim now knew the value to repair the door was in excess of $400) and providing false information to police (a misdemeanor).
