HARPER COUNTY DEPUTY INJURED IN OFFICER-INVOLVED-SHOOTING

*** The following update is based on an active and ongoing investigation. The OSBI's initial understanding of the facts and circumstances may evolve over the course of the investigation as witnesses are interviewed and evidence is collected and analyzed.
Upon completion of the OSBI investigation, agents will submit a report summarizing their investigation to the District Attorney’s Office. The District Attorney will determine whether or not to file charges.
HARPER COUNTY, Okla. (November 24, 2022) – The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is investigating an officer-involved-shooting involving the Harper County Sheriff’s Office. Based on the initial investigation, this is what is known at this time:
- Harper County Deputies responded to the 100 block of Walnut Drive in Buffalo, on November 24, 2022, at approximately 6:30 a.m.
- A black male, approximately 30 years of age, attempted to enter the location armed with a shotgun.
- The subject left the location on foot armed with weapons.
- Deputies encountered the subject at the intersection of NE 6th Street and E. Brule Street in Buffalo.
- The subject opened fire on the deputies, striking one.
- Deputies returned fire and the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.
- The deputy was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to an Oklahoma City hospital.
- The deputy’s injuries are reported as non-life threatening at this time.
- The name of the deceased subject is not being released pending next of kin notification
- OSBI is on scene at the request of the Harper County Sheriff’s Office.
