Happy Thanksgiving and Holiday Safety Tips
Happy Thanksgiving! On behalf of the Moraga Police Department, I want to thank our Moraga community for the privilege of serving and protecting our Town. This is an endeavor that we could not do without your help and assistance and we appreciate all of you. For those of you who are working today, thank you for your service and your efforts.
As we enter the holiday season, please be aware that criminals do their very best to take advantage of opportunities. They have to shop too…they just do it at your expense!! Here are a few tips to help keep you and your property safe:
- Scams are on the rise. You do not get phone calls from PG&E to pay your bill, from the Sheriff’s Office telling you that you have a warrant and if you get a call from someone who says they are a family member and are in trouble, call them back directly on a number that you look up – not the one they give you. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is. Never pay by purchasing gift cards and providing them with the numbers. If in doubt, please call the Police Department and ask for help or information.
- Package thefts – as our purchases are delivered to our homes, be aware of those who will drive through our neighborhoods looking for unattended parcels. Subscribe to UPS, FedEx and USPS notification services so you know when a parcel is delivered. If you aren’t going to be home, consider using an Amazon hub delivery location, ask a neighbor to grab it for you or have it delivered to your work. Report suspicious activity to the Police, such as seeing a person remove a parcel from your neighbor’s house and drive away.
- Driving. We are all distracted during the holidays and this affects our driving. Please pay attention to the road and drive defensively. Do NOT text and drive! If you have enjoyed a holiday party too much, remember that alcohol or other substances and driving do not mix. Please do not drive…use a designated driver or a car service.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Moraga Police Department at 925-888-7055 or via Dispatch at 925-284-5010. Additionally, officers’ contact information is listed on our website at www.police.moraga.ca.us.
Happy Holidays! Thank you for helping us keep Moraga a safe community.
