Petaluma PD makes 9 DUI arrests while dealing with large bar crowd Downtown
Last night, Petaluma PD deployed six officers to conduct a DUI Saturation Patrol and six additional officers to patrol Downtown due the traditional large bar crowd on the night before Thanksgiving. The lines to get into the bars in Downtown Petaluma were the largest seen in several years, with some lines stretching most of the 100 block of Kentucky Street. Between 11:30 PM and 1:30 PM, officers broke up several physical fights and responded to other alcohol related calls on Kentucky St., in the bars and in the Keller Street Parking Garage. While the Foot Patrol officers were trying to maintain the peace Downtown, the DUI Saturation Patrol officers made 86 traffic stops, between 4:00 PM and 4:00 AM resulting in DUI 9 arrests and 20 other infraction violations. This is the largest single amount of DUI arrests on any night so far this year. The Keller Street Parking Garage in Downtown Petaluma was barely full, and it appeared most bar patrons choose to ride share. Five of the DUI arrests occurred before 1:30 AM. As the bars let out around 1:45 AM, all the 27 officers working, were on calls for service and no units were available to look for further DUI drivers. As the crowds dissipated officers made the remaining 4 DUI arrests. The following were arrested for DUI.
James Ures, 51 years old, Kentfield resident
Nelly L. Osorio, 35 years old, Rohnert Park resident
Rory M. Smith, 30 years old, Petaluma resident
Kenneth O’Neil, 30 years old, Rohnert Park resident
Havilah Belton, 28 years old, Santa Rosa resident
Megan Farnham, 37 years old, Sebastopol resident
Mason McLain, 21 years old, Petaluma resident
Kenneth Woodward, 30 years old, San Pablo resident
Dante Boggeri, 24 years old, Santa Rosa resident
Officers as part of our ongoing Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Grant. These officers were specifically patrolling and looking for impaired drivers.
The Petaluma Police Department is committed to increasing overall traffic safety and reducing the number of alcohol-related collisions. We will continue our efforts to locate and identify impaired drivers. Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 to $20,000 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
If you witness a suspected DUI driver, the Petaluma Police Department encourages citizens to call 911.
Funding for the DUI Saturation Patrol was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
We want to thank all our police department staff that worked last night and must work this Holiday Weekend. We would also like to thank all the first responders, who must work this holiday week. Happy Thanksgiving.
