Update* Bayfront Highway is still closed due to high surf and Kamehameha Avenue is now open. 
The Hawaii Police Department advises you to AVOID Bayfront Highway between Waianuenue Avenue and Pauahi Street along with Kamehameha Avenue between Ponahawai Street and Pauahi Street due to a high surf. High surf has closed portions of both Bayfront Highway and Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo and will require a detour of traffic for the next 8 hours. Motorists are being advised to detour using Kilauea Avenue.
