Controlled Burn Project Ongoing Today
Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District , CAL Fire and Contra Costa County Fire's Crew 12 will be conducting a prescribed fire project in the Tunnel-East Bay Hills Shaded Fuel Break near Moraga Tuesday through Thursday, November 29th to December 1. Tuesday’s burning projects will be conducted in two areas. Crews will finish burning piles along Canyon Road between Valle Vista Staging Area and Pinehurst Road. At the same time, crews will begin burning piles along the Rocky Ridge trail on EBMUD watershed land above Lakefield Place and Tharp Drive.
The pile burning project will begin at approximately 10:00 AM and will be concluded no later than 5:00 PM each day. The burning will remove material that was cut and stacked earlier this year to reduce the wildfire fuel loading.
The project is being coordinated with the CAL Fire and Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the size and timing will minimize impacts on homes and smoke-sensitive sites in the area.
Residents and motorists in Moraga may see or smell smoke. Closing exterior doors and windows during the day will help to keep smoke from entering homes. Signs cautioning motorists and bicycles of the additional fire equipment traffic and potential for reduced visibility along Canyon and Pinehurst roads will be posted. Safety is our number one priority. If burning conditions change the project will be rescheduled.
