Nature of Incident: Camarillo Citizen Academy Class 39
Location: City of Camarillo
Date & Time: September 2022 – November 2022
Unit Responsible: Community Resources Unit
Narrative:

The Camarillo Police Department, Community Resources Unit, is proud to announce the completion of Citizen Academy Class 39.

The Camarillo Police Department recently celebrated the completion of Citizen Academy Class 39.  Participants completed a twelve-week program where they learned about the innerworkings of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. Attendees met subject matter experts in the fields of investigations, unmanned aerial operations, aviation, homeless services, mounted enforcement, human trafficking, training, tracking canines, narcotics detection canines, live scent canine detection, patrol operations, human remains canine detection, patrol operations and custody.  In addition, members were able to visit the Sheriff’s Communication Center (dispatch), Pre-Trial Detention Facility, Todd Road Jail, Aviation Unit, and the Sheriff’s Regional Training Center.

The Camarillo Citizen Academy’s goal is to educate the public on the day-to-day operations of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.  At the completion of the program, members frequently have a change in perception of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement as a whole.  One member of the most recent class said, “I thought I knew about what you guys did here, but now I really know.  I am glad I took this course, and I learned a lot.”

Camarillo Citizen Academy Class 40 is slated to start February 2022.  Minimum requirements: must be 18 years old, must live in the Camarillo area, must not have been convicted of a felony, must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor within the past 12 months, consent to a background check prior to the start of the first class.  Please contact Senior Deputy Chris Dyer at (805) 388-5130 or email at [email protected] for more information.  Applications for Camarillo Citizen Academy Class 40 are available at the Camarillo Police Department at 3701 E. Las Posas Road.

We look forward to seeing you at the next class.
