The suspect in this case was identified as John Paul Ortega, 35-year-old male. Ortega was arrested for murder and booked into the Potter County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing by the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit.
***Original Release***
On Tuesday November 29th at 6:40 PM, Amarillo Police officers were called to a parking lot in the 8500 block of I-40 east on an unconscious and unresponsive female. 34-year-old Iliana Michelle Garza was declared deceased at that location from an apparent homicide. The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit was called to investigate. A suspect was located and taken into custody but has not been booked into jail at this point. The investigation is ongoing.
