Wilmington Police announce additional partners joining weekly Community Outreach Walks:

The Wilmington Police Department is announcing the addition of community health center teams to our weekly Community Outreach Walks.

Starting this week, staff from Westside Family Healthcare and the Henrietta Johnson Medical Center will be participating in these outreach events. Staff members will attend walks that take place in the areas they primarily serve, with the goal of sharing information with residents about the services available through these health centers.

“Our weekly Wilmington Community Outreach Walks have already had an impact, with our partners from the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services and Community Response Team providing information and resources to residents throughout the city,” said Chief Robert J. Tracy. “We appreciate the services that Westside Family Healthcare and the Henrietta Johnson Medical Center provide to our community, and appreciate their interest in joining these walks to further extend their impact and meet the needs of our residents.”

The Wilmington Community Outreach Walks initiative was launched in October, and walks take place on Thursdays from 1-2 p.m. each week at a different location in Wilmington. During each walk, police officers are joined by staff from the Community Partner Support Unit Impact Team based at the Winder Laird Porter State Service Center; the Porter Center Public Health Clinic; and the Delaware Community Response Teams.

“For 34 years, Westside Family Healthcare has served the residents of Wilmington with a mission to provide equal access to quality healthcare, regardless of ability to pay,” said Lolita Lopez, President and CEO of Westside Family Healthcare. “As a partner in the Wilmington Community Outreach Walks initiative, we will be meeting our neighbors where they are and helping to connect families to care.  Our care team will be sharing health resources and distributing items focused the prevention of disease, including oral hygiene kits as well as COVID-19 and flu prevention kits. By working together as neighbors, we can build a healthy, more equitable place to live for all.”

“Henrietta Johnson Medical Center is excited to participate in the Wilmington Community Outreach Walks.  What a wonderful way to show how much we care and to love on the community through sharing resources and information,” said Shay Scott, CEO of the Henrietta Johnson Medical Center. “Hopefully this initiative will spread not only the word of the resources and services that are available through the partnering organizations, but it will let every person we encounter know we care and want them to be healthy, joyful, and successful above all!”
