Brenda Carman Investigation Update
Earlier this week, the unidentified skeletal remains found in greater Bluffton were officially determined to be those of Brenda Carman, a Hilton Head Island woman who was reported missing in August.
Her manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators have been working diligently towards the arrest of her long-time boyfriend, Michael D. Wilson. Although not publicly named, Wilson was the sole person of interest in this investigation.
Earlier today, December 1, 2022, at 2:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office was called to Wilson’s Indigo Run home that he shared with Brenda for a suicide attempt. After life-saving efforts by emergency services, 66-year-old Wilson was pronounced deceased at the home.
Background:
Brenda Carman was reported missing by her brother on August 22, 2022. Investigators were able to determine the last known public sighting of Carman was on August 9, 2022, when she left her attorney’s office where she was discussing a legal separation from Michael Wilson.
Through forensic examination of evidence collected in the Carman-Wilson investigation, investigators were able to isolate search efforts to specific areas of Bluffton and Hilton Head Island, which led to the recovery of her remains.
While the pursuit of a suspect in this case has ended, the investigation is ongoing.
As always, we appreciate your partnership in the safety of our community.
