Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Weeks of November 14-27, 2022

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Robberies

There was one robbery and one attempted robbery during the past two weeks.

On Wednesday, 11-16-22, at approximately 12:04 p.m., a victim was walking toward his vehicle located in the parking garage of the Serramonte Shopping Center when a suspect, who just parked his vehicle next to the victim’s, brandished a gun and said, “Be quiet, don’t tell anyone, give me all your stuff.” The victim replied, “I don’t have anything.” The victim was afraid that the suspect would shoot him and backed up toward the trunk of his vehicle. At the same time, people were walking into the parking structure, which caused the suspect to drive away without taking anything from the victim. This investigation is continuing.

On Wednesday, 11-16-22, at approximately 7:07 p.m., Officer Arguelles was dispatched to Dollar Tree on Geneva Avenue on a report of a strong-arm robbery. An employee stated that two suspects were concealing home goods and dog-related items valued at approximately $75 into a bag. The first suspect was described as a Black female in her mid-20s, approximately 5’3” tall, and wearing all black clothing. The second suspect was described as a Black female in her mid-20s, carrying a black dog, and wearing a pink beanie, jean jacket, and blue jeans. The employee asked the two suspects at the front door to return the merchandise. The employee reached for the bag with the concealed merchandise, and then there was a struggle over the bag. The first suspect pulled the bag away, causing the employee to get two small abrasions on his knuckles during the scuffle. The first suspect also slapped the back of the employee’s head. Both suspects left in a dark-colored Lexus.

Residential Burglaries

There was one residential burglary during the past two weeks.

On Wednesday, 11-16-22, at approximately 3:10 a.m., Officer Barkocy was dispatched to the 1300 block of South Mayfair Avenue on a report of a suspect entering a vehicle and then a residence. The victim stated the suspect entered a family member’s unlocked vehicle and took the garage opener. The suspect then used the garage opener to enter the garage and took the victim’s backpack containing papers, markers, headlamps, and a work badge.

Commercial Burglaries

There were six commercial burglaries during the past two weeks.

On Tuesday, 11-15-22, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Officer Delorenzi was dispatched to the 100 block of 1st Avenue on a report of a suspect stealing a vehicle part. The victim stated that while transferring items from his vehicle to his storage unit, a suspect took a Honda Civic spoiler valued at approximately $3,000 and walked away. The victim chased the suspect and ordered him to drop the spoiler, which he did. The victim retrieved his spoiler and returned to his storage unit. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his 30s with a brown and white beard wearing a black baseball cap, green jacket, and blue jeans.

On Thursday, 11-17-22, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a suspect stole two packages and a carpet from the mail room of the Serramonte Ridge Apartment Homes on Campus Drive. The suspect was described as a bald Hispanic or Asian male wearing a red long-sleeve shirt with white lettering on the front, blue jeans, and black shoes. This investigation is continuing.

On Thursday, 11-17-22, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a suspect went into US Bank on Gellert Boulevard and asked a teller to exchange his $100 bills for $50 bills. The teller retrieved an envelope of $50 bills, but the suspect said Canadian currency was needed instead. While the teller was distracted, the suspect took $1,600 from the envelope containing the $50 bills and left the bank along with the suspect’s original money. This investigation is continuing.

On Saturday, 11-19-22, at approximately 10:56 a.m., Officer Jayme and Officer I. Perez were dispatched to Metro PCS on Mission Street on a report of a suspect who stole a display phone. A manager stated the suspect came into the store and asked about iPhones. The manager responded that the store had run out of iPhones. The suspect then asked, “Who owned Metro PCS?” The suspect proceeded to pull on a cell phone attached to a display case and eventually broke it. The display case had two cell phones. The suspect selected one cell phone valued at $270 and walked out of the store. A Broadmoor police officer located the suspect inside Taco Bell. The manager identified the suspect as the person who took the cell phone. The suspect, a 43-year-old San Francisco transient, was arrested and booked into jail for commercial burglary.

On Monday, 11-21-22, at approximately 8:17 p.m., suspects entered Old Navy at the Serramonte Shopping Center, grabbed a large amount of clothing, and immediately fled the area in a black SUV. The assistant manager described the suspects as three Black females. The merchandise stolen is valued at approximately $2,400.

Between Wednesday, 11-23-22, at approximately 4:30 p.m. and Monday, 11-28-22, at approximately 6:00 a.m., at the construction site near the unit block of Midway Drive, multiple construction companies were the victims of commercial burglary by unknown suspects who stole numerous construction tools and materials. Unknown suspects also tried to open a toolbox, but were unsuccessful. A site foreman believed the suspects cut a hole in the chain link fence and then cut the padlock securing a gate to gain access. Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
