Newark, California (Friday, December 2, 2022)
On Friday, December 2, 2022, at approximately 2:22 p.m., the Newark Police Department received a report of gunshots in the 7600 block of Sunset Avenue. Officers arrived at the location two minutes after receiving the call and located an unresponsive adult male victim. The victim suffered from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel immediately rendered aid, but unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the individual will be released by the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau after notification has been made to the next of kin.
The incident does not appear to be a random act. Newark Police Detectives are actively investigating this shooting and will continue their efforts in handling this case as a homicide investigation.
These types of violent acts are not tolerated by the Newark Police Department or our community and put our community members at unnecessary risk.
